Gene Houpe has a proven commitment to public service. He served more than 25 years as police officer in Iredell County. His longtime goal has been election to the Iredell County Board of Commissioners. His service as an appointed official was marked by a dedication to making informed decisions that benefited the citizens he served. 

Gene understands that economic development is one of the key responsibilities of local government and that a strong and healthy local economy relies on the excellent schools and strong infrastructure that attracts and maintains top notch employers.

Gene is a lifelong Iredell County resident and a graduate of Statesville High School. He continued his football career as a player at Florida State University. He has served as a police officer, run a local business for more than 22 years, and is an active member of Western Avenue Baptist Church and a youth sports coach. Gene is also a classic car enthusiast.

He and his wife, Dr. Tonya Houpe, have been married for 19 years and are blessed with five adopted children.
